The Foodie in Sifnos
(Option: Customized Itineraries)
Sifnos, Greece - 4 nights
Available May to October
Sifnos is known for many things - beautiful beaches, delicious food, ceramics and pottery, amazing architecture, crystal clear waters and a slow island vibe. I also found it to be one of the least expensive islands in Greece. Located in the southwest part of the Cyclades, Sifnos is definitely a foodie island with lots of local specialities, some of which you will learn in your two cooking classes on this four night immersion into this lesser known Greek island.
Chickpea Stew (Revithia), Goat or Lamb Stew, Caper Salad (Kaparosalata), Fried Chickpea Balls (Revithoketedes), and Sifnian Honey Pie (Melopita) are to name a few of the wonderful dishes for which Sifnos is known.
You will have two cooking classes where you will learn some local dishes from Sifnos and the Cyclades island chain.
You will also visit a pottery workshop visiting with Sifnians who have been involved in this artistry for generations.
ITINERARY
DAY ONE
ARRIVAL DAY & WELCOME DINNER
Welcome to Sifnos!
You will be collected from Kamares Port in Sifnos and taken to your 4 star hotel.
Enjoy a welcome dinner at the hotel (included).
DAY TWO
POTTERY WORKSHOP VISIT
Sifnos is known for its pottery, so after breakfast, a true Sifnos experience will require a visit to a pottery workshop. The potters will take you through all the stages of the production and will offer you stories from the past, when the Sifnian potters would travel all over Greece to sell their work or would export their merchandise all over the Mediterranean. They will explain how little has changed in the process of production – an art that has remained largely intact for hundreds of years. And they will praise the soil of their beloved island, rich in argil and metals that make the utensils extremely fire resistant.
Lunch on your own.
Dinner at your hotel (included).
DAY THREE
COOKING LESSON
After breakfast, you will attend our cooking lesson at a farm where we will cook and offer you five different traditional recipes of Sifnos! We will also walk through the farm where you will have the opportunity to taste and take photos of all the different vegetables one by one.
Lunch will follow and includes a three course meal with dessert.
Dinner at your hotel (included).
